I never really like going to the grocery store and this goes back to pre-pandemic.  During the pandemic I actually appreciated ordering my groceries on an app and picking them up.  Then our grocery store started charging double for pick-up so we decided to not only switch stores, but also go back to shopping in-person.  Like most stores all of the products had increased in price and still seem to be that way.  $27.00 for an 8-pack of double-rolled store brand toilet paper is a bit much.  While the cost of literally everything has gone up, here are four ways you can save at the grocery store.

  1. Fill your pantry with your basic essentials like pasta, rice, bread, canned tomatoes, frozen veggies, onions and potatoes.  You’d be surprised at how many meals you can make with just those items.  You won’t have to buy as many new meals weekly.

2.  Prepare a head of time.  Walk in there with your list complete and stick to it.  Impulse buying will only delay your trip.

3.  The deals are out there, you just have to look for them.  Most deals are posted on the stores website and some even have in-store QR codes you can scan with your phone which will then be applied at checkout.

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS – JUNE 10: Produce is offered for sale at a supermarket on June 10, 2021 in Chicago, Illinois. Inflation rose 5% in the 12-month period ending in May, the biggest jump since August 2008. Food prices rose 2.2 percent for the same period. (Photo by Scott Olson/Getty Images)

4.  Finally, it might help to tweak your dinner menu for the week.  Meat and dairy are super expensive right now so maybe come up with meals that don’t use either of those as the main ingredient.
