More information has been released about a shooting last night in Columbia County.

A deputy was called to a disturbance at a home in Halifax North subdivision off Evans-to-Locks Road.

Major Steve Morris says 20 year old Donquae Bates of North Augusta went to the home in the 500 block of Fairfield Way around 10:00 p.m. and got into a confrontation with one of the tenants at the rental property.

Morris says Bates fired shots at the tenant, who wasn’t injured.  The deputy and tenant returned fire, but Bates turned the gun on himself.  He died on the way to the hospital.

Three people who were at the home are undergoing treatment for non life-threatening injuries.

Morris says Tuesday’s incident stemmed from a conflict the two had a couple of weeks ago in South Carolina.
