Georgia 5K Run

Running

On the hunt for a Georgia 5K Run (you have to see the one I found... video below!)? You may already know, but I'm a runner.  Not a fast one, but I try to get in at least 3 runs a week, of various lengths.  And, I love doing local 5Ks!  I actually haven't done a 5K race recently... but I am on the hunt for my next one!  So shoot me a message if you know of a good one!

Running is something I started doing years ago with my mom.  I've had highs and lows with it.

Injuries and Set Backs

Back in 2019, I went to a trampoline park with my step daughter and thought it looked like fun.  Until I snapped something in my foot.  I thought it was broken, but the doctor said I just tore a bunch of stuff in my foot.  So that put me out of running for a while.

Then, in 2020... Somehow, I broke my foot (the same one I'd injured almost exactly a year before).  I had run 7 miles at the Greeneway one Saturday, and my ankle started bothering me.  I thought I'd just re-injured that old injury.  After a couple of days of unbearable pain, I finally went to see my foot and ankle doctor.  He did and X-ray and came back in.  He started pressing on the part of my foot just below my pinky toe. And, he asked if it hurt.  I said "No."  Then he turned and looked at the nurse and looked back at me. That's when he said, "Well it's broken."

I was shocked.  And I was put into a boot for around 6 weeks again.  I honestly felt like it started hurting in that spot more so AFTER I was in the boot. But again, I was out of running for a while.

Let's be honest... the whole "If you don't use it, you lose it" is so true when it comes to running.  Because those few weeks after I was out of the boot, running felt SO hard as I tried to build back up. And for the longest time I was SO afraid of re-breaking it.

My Next Race

All of that to say, I'm back to running about 3-4 times a week.  I did the Palmetto Peach Half Marathon back in November (it was TOUGH).  Coming up, my next race is the Hot Chocolate 15K in Atlanta on February 6th!  A little nervous about that one... since a lot of my running lately has been on the treadmill.  I'm praying it's not FREEZING cold that day!

And again, I'm always on the hunt for a good little 5K around the Augusta area.  Then someone sent me this TikTok today... and I have to ask...

Would you do this Georgia 5K run?  It's called the Fig Leaf 5k... Clothing OPTIONAL! Yikes.  I even looked it up to see if it's still an event, and it is! Looks like it's happening in April! It's a bit of a drive to Dawsonville, Georgia though... so I'm gonna pass on this one! Haha!
