RECALL: Boppy Pillows
USA Today reports there is a recall on Boppy Pillows due to infant deaths.
The Boppy Co. makes nursing pillows and baby carriers. Three types of their baby pillows are being recalled due to eight infant deaths due to suffocation.
Between December 2015 and June 2020, these infant deaths occurred after the babies were placed on their back, side or stomach in a newborn baby lounger.
The Boppy Pillow recall is for about 3.3 million baby loungers. The products included are the Boppy Original Newborn Loungers, Boppy Preferred Newborn Loungers and Pottery Barn Kids Boppy Newborn Loungers. These were all sold between January 2004 and September 2021, at various retailers across the US and online.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission instructs consumers to stop using the loungers immediately and contact The Boppy Co. for a refund. You can call the company at 800-416-1355 (9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EDT Monday through Friday) or visit The Boppy Co. online.
Infants are at risk of suffocation with loungers and pillow-like products, which aren’t necessarily intended for sleep. Babies should be placed on their back on a firm, flat surface. Avoid adding blankets, pillows and other items in the baby’s sleeping environment.
The Boppy Co. does note in a statement that the loungers were “not marketed as an infant sleep product and includes warnings against unsupervised use.”
In cooperation with the CPSC, we have issued a voluntary safety recall of the Newborn Lounger to address a risk of infant suffocation. Parents & caregivers should immediately discontinue the use of the product & visit our site to learn more: https://t.co/8UN0amYqg0.
