Britney Spears Free From All Charges In Housekeeping Battery Case
Britney Spears will not be charged for battery following an investigation into a confrontation with her housekeeper last month.
According to NBC News, the investigation found “insufficient evidence that a crime had occurred,” Ventura County District Attorney Erik Nasarenko said yesterday (September 1). A complaint was filed against Spears, 39, by her housekeeper, who alleged that the singer slapped her cellphone out of her hands.
The sheriff’s office concluded there was no injury to the housekeeper or significant damage to the phone.
Spears’ lawyer Mathew Rosengart called the accusation “sensational tabloid fodder” at the time and again in a new statement yesterday. “If this involved Jane Doe rather than Britney Spears, it would not have been pursued or covered at all,” Rosengart said. “Anyone can make an accusation, but this should never have made it this far, and we are glad the DA’s Office has done the right thing.”
Of course, that’s not the end of Britney’s headaches. Her father, Jamie Spears indicated in a filing last month that he would be “willing to step down when the time is right, but the transition needs to be orderly and include a resolution of matters.” He still contested his removal, though, arguing there was no urgent need and urged the court not to make a decision based on “false allegations.”
And as we reported yesterday (September 1), Britney’s legal team claims Jamie is asking for around $2 million, some of which would go towards paying his lawyers and her former business manager Tri Star. Rosengart said in legal docs, “The status quo is no longer tolerable, and Britney Spears will not be extorted.”
Britney said she just wants her father to resign sooner than his slow exit, and if he doesn’t step down, she says the court should suspend him from the conservatorship on September 29.
Rosengart said, “Mr. Spears has the right to try to hold his daughter hostage by setting the terms of his removal. This is not about him, it is about the best interests of his daughter, which as a matter of law, mandate his removal. Even putting aside the legal issues requiring his prompt removal, if he loves his daughter, Mr. Spears should resign now, today, before he is suspended. It would be the correct and decent thing to do.”
