Apple added a "secret button" on the back of your iPhone, and you may not have even noticed it. Since the release of iOS 14, the latest version of its iPhone software, a new feature called Back Tap combines the attributes of hardware and software.

Back Tap turns the entire back of your iPhone into a touch-sensitive button that you can double or triple tap to trigger specific functions on your phone. You might have noticed Back Tap in your iPhone's Accessibility menu. If you haven't, here's how you find it: under Settings, go to Accessibility, then Touch, and at the very bottom of the menu is Back Tap.

Once selected, you can assign functions for double and triple-tapping the back of your phone. Settings to take a screenshot, adjusting the volume, activating Siri, and accessing the Control Center are just some of many selections you can assign.

The new "button" is invisible to the naked eye, and is nonfunctional until it’s been enabled. The intended purpose is to give users more interactive options for their devices, The Verge reports.

Per the outlet, "By opening it up to Shortcuts, the company turned Back Tap into a tool of limitless creativity, letting users come up with their own ways."
