Dr. Drew Backtracks On His Initial Downplay of COVID-19
I’m old enough to remember when Dr. Drew blamed the media for hyping up the virus…
Now it’s not uncommon for people to have a change of opinion, or even a change of heart. However, it gets a little harder to navigate the backpedaling when science is proven to be accurate and lives are being lost. I’d refresh your memory on his past comments but he has since had them removed from the internet…
Unfortunately, Dr. Drew has quite a media presence and people around the world (for whatever reason) value his opinion, so back in February when he naively downplayed the severity of this virus and compared it to the flu, many people followed suit. He has since revoked his earlier comments and has issued an apology saying, “my early comments about equating coronavirus with influenza were wrong. They were incorrect. I was part of a chorus that was saying that. And we were wrong. And I want to apologize for that.”
It’s nice to hear people admit when they’re wrong, especially those in high places. This particular apology comes as a shock to most considering there have been plenty of people doubling down on the flu vs. Covid comparison since these comments were made. Dr. Drew has now volunteered himself to the front-lines signing up to work alongside first responders in NYC and LA health corps. At least he can rest assured knowing he moved over to the right side of history on this one. Better late than never, Doc.
