Oprah Refutes ‘Awful’ Arrest Rumors
Early Wednesday morning (Mar. 18), Oprah took to Twitter to refute “awful” rumors that were circulating online stating that the 66-year-old media mogul had been arrested.
“Just got a phone call that my name is trending. And being trolled for some awful FAKE thing,” Oprah tweeted. “It’s NOT TRUE. Haven’t been raided, or arrested.”
“Just sanitizing and self-distancing with the rest of the world. Stay safe everybody,” Oprah concluded.
It was also stated in the allegations that Oprah’s house had been raided, as she referenced in her announcement on Twitter.
Fans, as well as some other celebrities, have taken to social media in Oprah’s defense. Filmmaker Ava Duvernay called the rumor “disgusting” on Twitter.
“Trolls + bots began this disgusting rumor. Mean-spirited minds kept it going,” Duvernay wrote. “#Oprah has worked for decades on behalf of others. Given hundreds of millions to individuals + causes in need. Shared her own abuse as a child to help folks heal.”
“Shame on all who participated in this,” Duvernay added.
