Blake Shelton Targets Lil Nas X in Latest Song
Most of Lil Nas X’s career was initially founded upon controversy within the country music community, and it seems it’s far from over!
Country Artists Blake Shelton and Trace Adkins teamed up recently for a collaborative single called “Hell Right,” but some fans think a certain line in the song is just plain wrong.
In the second verse, the line goes as follows: Couple girls with their boots on / Got their Bluetooth on / T-shirts sayin’ Go Sooners / Then the girl from the small town took off the ‘Old Town’ / Put on a little Hank Jr. / Thank God / Hell Right.
No denying the shots fired there… but the question remains: WHY?
Lil Nas X was originally pulled off of his debuted no. 19 spot by the Country Music Charts after one week citing it didn’t contain enough “elements” of country music. Now we can sit here and list several country artists that have either collaborated with a rap star, or tried their hand at rapping themselves (yikes), but that’s not the point. The issue X’s fans have taken with this is the fact that the artist is still being wrongfully ridiculed and targeted by members of the country community, and they didn’t hesitate taking it to Twitter…
After a mass callout from X’s fans, The Voice coach issued an explanation regarding the lyric in question: “It’s absolutely not throwing any kind of shade at Lil Nas X.” He goes on to say that it “literally has nothing to do with anything at all except how much the song is played. It could have been ‘Achy Breaky Heart’ or any other [overplayed] song.”
Lil Nas X, embraced by country stars like Billy Ray Cyrus, has dealt with this genre-based criticism very well in the past and seems this situation won’t be any different. Plus, the rising star has a few other fans that were revealed over the weekend that may just take the spotlight: The Obamas
Former President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, released their summer playlist and Lil Nas X’s Old Town Road (Remix) was amongst their most played tracks! Check out the full playlist below:
With summer winding down, here’s a sampling of what Michelle and I have been listening to — some new, some old, some fast, some slow. Hope you enjoy. pic.twitter.com/BS5ri1lvxz

Whether country music likes it or not, Lil Nas X is here to stay… and it seems so is his cowboy hat 😉
