Heartbreaking news hit out of Hollywood this week with the news of the death of actress and model Stefanie Sherk, 43, who was the wife of actor Demian Bichir.
According to a report from People Magazine, her death was ruled a suicide by drowning. The Blast reports that Bichir found his wife weighted down at the bottom of their family pool after he returned home from grocery shopping.
While paramedics were able to briefly revive her, she died in the hospital eight days later. Sources told law enforcement that the actress had been suffering from depression.
Bichir confirmed the news of her death, which took place on April 20, on Instagram. The Hateful Eight star wrote a touching tribute to his partner of nearly a decade.
“It has been the saddest and toughest time of our lives and we don’t know how much time it will take for us to overcome this pain,” the Oscar-nominated actor wrote. “Stefanie’s beautiful, angelical and talented presence will be immensely missed. We will hold Stefanie in our hearts forever.”
“We thank everybody beforehand for their prayers and we respectfully ask for your understanding so we may grieve in peace and privacy in these incredibly difficult times,” Bichir added. “It is our sincerest hope that our beautiful Stefanie, my angel and love of my life, will rest in eternal peace.”
Bichir and Sherk began dating in 2010. She was often seen on his arm at his premieres and official appearances.
Sherk was also an actress herself, having appeared in films like Valentine’s Day, Star Power, Loco Love and the upcoming Grudge film.
Bichir had recently starred in The Nun, a prequel film in The Conjuring horror series.
