According to People Magazine, the diagnosis came in 2001 after a breakdown.
Recently, the singer chose to seek treatment for her disorder, after going through a difficult time.
During her diagnosis and for several years after the fact, Carey said she was in denial about her condition.
Today, Carey is still in treatment and is currently taking medication.
The disorder causes bouts of depression, in addition to sleeplessness, irritability, and more.
