Police in Southern Pines, North Carolina have ruled the death of a pregnant teen a homicide.

Aiyonna Clarice Barrett’s lifeless body was found in a vehicle in a wooded area on Sunday evening.

At the time of her death, Barrett was nine months pregnant with a baby girl.

Sadly, her unborn child did not survive.

According to ABC 11, whoever is responsible for Barrett’s death will also face a homicide charge for the infant, per North Carolina law.

Upon learning Barrett had been killed, her family released a statement.

In the statement, the family praised authorities and mourned the loss of Barrett. They are also seeking justice and have faith law enforcement will due a full investigation to find who is responsible for her murder.
