Authorities in North Carolina are investigating after a man was shot and killed inside his residence.
According to WFMY, the shooting occurred in Catawba County when the victim opened his front door after hearing someone knock.
The victim has been identified as Kevin Hefner, 28. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
At this time, it is not clear if the suspect and victim knew each other.
While this incident did happen in North Carolina, this is a good reminder to always look through the peephole or ask a visitor to identify themselves before answering the door to your home.
If you have any concerns about the person on the other side of the door, you should never open the door.
Rather, go to a safe place inside your home and phone police.
