If you have not seen it already, there has been a video floating around on the internet of a scientific mystery.
In the video, a woman is showing off some sort of snake create that has “two heads, three eyes and weird skin.” The strange creature has racked up over 19 million views already!
The creature is dark brown and striped, has two heads, one single blinking eye, and wiggling legs. Lujan Eroles, the woman who filmed the video asked her Facebook friends to identify the creature she found. She spotted the animal outside of a courtyard behind her home in Santa Fe, Argentina.
Her posting conjured many Facebook comments. One of which noted that the animal was not some type of mutant snake, but rather a caterpillar. According to Daily Mail, “hawk-moth caterpillars can be found in a range of habitats, including open countryside, woodlands and city gardens. It has two large ‘eye-markings’ behind the head which tricks predators into thinking its bigger than it is.”

The caterpillar is also know to have horn spines, similar to the ones seen on the snake reports WTSP News. Before the animal can turn into a butterfly, it begins to build up its body fat. Their exterior appearance of a viper snake is to help camouflage themselves against predators. Its tail, which tropical has a sharp appearance can transform to look like a snake’s head.
@WoodlandTrust 7 Elephant Hawk Moth caterpillars, photographed and returned to the place they were found 🙂
2 elephant hawk moth caterpillars in 2 days. Not as impressive in size as yesterday's but still a magnificent fella.
If you were freaked out by the caterpillar-snake’s weird blinking eye like us, well that is a part of their disguise as well. The creature hopes to look more threatening in order to ward off anyone who could possibly eat it as a tasty snack.
Often times, a predator will catch the creature and, once the bug transforms, the predators think it is a snake and drops the caterpillar.
You do you, little weird snake-caterpillar guy. You are just living your truth.
